L'Aigle Beginners guide

Hi so If you're like me a big noob to playing L'Aigle and need some basic help here it is.

Note: I'm not super good at this game, this is in no way meant to be an all encompassing guide. I have 150 days on L'Aigle which is not a lot compared to many but I find that there aren't a lot of guides out there or if there are the info is really spread out. This might have errors so feel free to help me out. My current L'Aigle mod is the most recent (1.41). The way I play is on normal everything with battle size up to 450. I love this mod, I feel it's very polished, very few bugs.

Starting out:

I would suggest not attempting the usual warband style of a one man army because its very likely that you're not gonna make it. Instead focus on int and charisma, My playstyle is the traditional trader first with 4 in trader (i don't really need past this) and pathfinding with a few horses to keep me fast. Grab leadership and when you cant add anymore then add on yourself (iron flesh, powerstrike, weapon master etc). I started in Austria because I heard they have the best light infantry

First thing is to always recruit. Soldiers cost 10g and have no weekly cost. Always try to fight enemies with slightly less than you because it's very easy to lose troops. You want decisive victories otherwise just run. Either way always recruit.

Getting money:

Arena fights from what I have heard have been nerfed but don't count them out yet. There seems to be a buffer between how many fights you can do, some say it's 2 days some say 1. Either way, it doesn't matter, fights will earn you very little at the start (10g I think) but ramps up the more fights you do. I get 100 a fight. Easy xp and as the price of everything is low the 10g can go towards buying food (bread is around +/-5g) or another soldier. The trick is to corner them in, then spam kick until they die. Another combo I found is to kick and throw a right hand, corner them and just keep doing that. it's slightly faster but either will get the job done. If you don't plan to cheese it and want a boxing match your left punch has been changed to a jab-cross, the first hit doesn't do anything but often the bot opens up anyway and you can land the second hit. Essentially you will be doing this at every town you go to as you trade which brings in a bit more cash. When you don't need it anymore then stop doing it.

Equipment:

Armour doesn't go too high in this mod so just grab whatever is highest. For weapons I usually carry the british infantry rifle without a bayonet as it can be used on horses and fired with 100 accuracy. Very slow but at least you can reload while riding and you will want the accuracy. equip musket ammo and whatever sword you can. I usually carry a double barrel pistol as a side arm so you can get 2 extra bullets to fire, though it cant be reloaded.

Trading:

Cheaper runs:

Flax bundles can be bought from the german states as well for about 4-9 and can sell as high as 29-39. Salt for around 10-11 to around 57. this is with trader 4 so your playthrough may vary.

More expensive runs:

So far the best trade route I've found is to start at Salzberg, buy wine, travel up the german states (Rheinbund) and buy up ale. When you reach the top at groningen, wine sells super high. buy the wine cheap at around 300-400 and sell at 550+. Some of the other states from Holland buy wine high so be sure to check it out. Ale should be bought at around 80. Dont buy above 90 if you can. Sell it at salzberg for 250. The price will start to go down after a while to around 190 but that's still a good deal as it usually goes up if you don't sell ale for a while.

Salzberg is pretty consistent though. Another place to sell wine is at aquila in Italy. They buy as well as groningen and sometimes even higher (I've seen wine for 600+) but they don't have that ale that you can sell. (The german states are closer together and more accessible.) When you have enough buy a few farmsteads to increase your weekly income. As soldiers don't cost shit even if you lose all of them just recruit more. get cheap horses to speed you up (I think the max cap is 6 horses doesn't matter if they are lame).

Companions:

You'll need these guys and they are reasonably cheap once you've done a few trade runs. You'll especially need the medic to survive as troops die really easily in this mod. go to taverns and pick them up as per usual. If you find brunswick jagers they make for really good light infantry though you can use them as line if you have trained up the austrian light infantry to their max level (Austrian Jagers FTW).

Troops:

I find that light infantry especially the Austrian Light infantry is very strong. Light infantry is the snipers of the army, very long range with (i think) slightly slower reload to the Line Infantry. Line infantry have faster reload and are better at hand to hand combat so it's wise to have a ton of these later on. For now, during small battles the focus will be on shooting your enemy before they can shoot you. Later on grab line infantry as you'll need them against cavalry charges.

The link below leads to a guy who has done an amazing breakdown on tactics and troop types.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=807019767

if you aren't able to field the army he states, the way I do it is more for those starting out and can field only about 50-60 troops.

I don't get cavalry until much later on as they usually die if you just ask them to charge. Rather I get 4-5 to chase down stragglers or to bog down enemy cavalry by using the horses as meat shields to be placed at the very front. DO NOT RECRUIT MERCENARY CAVALRY, maybe it's my game but they always come out with no horse and sometimes no weapons.

For now start with light infantry, keep shooting and don't try to engage in hand to hand until you've killed most of them and they rout. Make sure you dont fight people larger than you or even the same size.

Basic tactics:

Until you can field about 50, your tactic will just be to put them in 2 lines, spread them out and let them fire at will. The light infantry will do well to pick them off. Pick up a few farmers for free from the enemy and let them rush out as meat shields.

When you can field 50 this is where the fun begins. Light infantry at the back with fire at will. field about 15-20. the remaining 30 should be line infantry with 5 being cavalry. put your line infantry in rows of 2 and hold fire until they raise their weapons. A tactic I found to gauge whether you can hit enemies is to fire 1/3 of the line infantry (f3 then pick one of the flanks or the middle) and then to advance them slightly before firing the remaining 2. This way your first volley can be used to see whether your shots are even landing and the subsequent 2 will fire. As the other two reload the first group will reload and run up to cover the line. This is good especially if your enemy is approaching and the group that fired first can quickly run up after their reload and let their shots loose. Have your light infantry follow up.

After a few rounds of volleys, when you feel you have killed enough, have all your men reload and hold fire. Run as close as you can before asking them to fire one last time and then to switch to melee (f4+f2 I think) before charging. The line infantry do well here and can usually mop up the rest. Send in your cavalry to further disrupt their firing line and chase down stragglers. Keep them out of the way for as long as possible.

most enemies at this level won't have cavalry. if they do simply put your line infantry in rows of 3 and ask them to stay close. Hold fire until the cavalry are really close and then fire. often charging cavalry waves can be destroyed like this. if you don't have enough line infantry but a lot of light infantry, use your line infantry as fodder and use your light as you would your line (volley fire with them).

ALWAYS STAY FAR AWAY FROM YOUR MAIN LINES. Ride up and down as you reload and only stop to fire accurately. if you get dehorsed hide behind your own troops and press z to kneel while reloading. Bullets can kill in one shot which you don't want happening to you.

How to join a faction:

Find the main capital of the faction and find a guy underneath a cannon, he will give you a free shit gun and you instantly become a vassal for the kingdom you joined. the pay is shit but whatever, your trade runs are where the money is made.

If you're like me and stupidly joined austria when I could only field 50-60 troops youre gonna have a hard time. Nevertheless it's not impossible to succeed and it does speed up playing as you start getting villages and stuff which increase your money. You also get to kill a lot of patrols which boost renown and raid villages (Not a great reward but you may get lucky)

What to do if you get caught by a bigger army.

Larger armies on the field often come with huge amounts of cavalry. At tactic skill 2 often I only come out with 10-20 troops depending on how many are on the other side. leaving men behind often means leaving almost all 59 of my men so that's not an option for me.

So I found an easy cheese is to get your entire army into rows of 3 and keep them semi tight. infantry once again as fodder with all of them holding fire bring your light infantry beside your line as you don't have enough troops to make a proper wall of fire. Put your cavalry in front of all of this about 5 paces. The moment the enemy cavalry are as close as possible let your cavalry charge if they didn't aggro the pack and fire at will all troops. if you have about 20 you can possible take out 8-9 cavalry instantly. the moment they smash into your cavalry get all your men to charge. shoot what you have and kill who you can before you die. When you do die I find that if you kill enough they just let you leave. This way I lose 15-20 men instead of almost all.

Cannons: You can get these at the military depo for 6k apiece. I find them semi useful more so against large groups but don't buy them unless you have the extra funds. have your light infantry around it with your line infantry off to the side in front. (Though I don't think friendly fire is an issue correct me if I'm wrong). The men working the cannons bug out for me as they seem to think they're in light infantry so if you move your light infantry they bug out and move with them. I can't change them to another group as they are considered "ally soldiers" and don't add to your army pop.

I hope this has been helpful to someone and do let me know if anything is wrong that I should change. :)

ERROR - Could not load merged xml file correctly: ItemsError: Object reference not set to an instance of an obect.

Reinstalled the game recently and have been getting the error message above. I'm able to launch the game but once I click on "new game" it crashes and shows error. I have some mods download and have checked to make sure they're updated to the current version. I've also made sure to unblock all dll files. Any suggestions would be great thanks. submitted by /u/leopaldo [link] [comments]

TaleWorlds Forums

Back when Bannerlord was announced, I vaguely remember that, in the announcement thread, people were discussing the choice of the title "Bannerlord." Does anyone else remember that? It was a useless topic to discuss, but I kept coming back because I was so hyped about the game and was hoping for more information about it.
