I'm a big single-player guy who's dabbled in multiplayer from time to time--mostly limited by horrible internet that finally got upgraded last month. Following along with the dev blogs I had grown increasingly worried about Bannerlord. Worried that it wouldn't live up to Warband. Worried that some of the decisions they've made--character death, children, skill trees--were moving the game in a direction that I didn't think was correct. I got the Beta invite today and my few hours of multiplayer have really eased my fears.
I will not say that Bannerlord feels like Warband, but it feels good. It sounds amazing. That's really what impressed me most so far. Riding around, different surfaces sounding different under foot, sounds of combat drifting from around the corner. It feels so much more real, to me. I also like the changes they've made in how multiplayer functions: 6v6 skirmish maps are big enough to allow maneuvering but the flags ensure plenty of heated combat even with only a dozen players. I like buying units (with 3 options to change their kits) better then earning gold every life and using that to buy gear piece by piece--the new system is more streamlined, doesn't give skilled/experienced players as much of an extra advantage over those of us who struggle more and must be easier to balance. I love that there is a little bit of a practice faze while waiting for everyone to load into the map.
My major focus and concerns are still with single-player, but if they've gotten multiplayer so right so far I'm more confident that they are also taking single-player in the right direction.
