Why do lords just give up on sieges?

I ask a lord I'm good friends with to siege a town, he agrees and heads over there, I help fight off all the lords that turn up to defend, and then I wait there for the siege to start and then after 2 days he just runs off and when I talk to him I can't ask him to siege that town again.

It should have been easy for us to both take it but the bastard buggers off and leaves me on my own

Back when Bannerlord was announced, I vaguely remember that, in the announcement thread, people were discussing the choice of the title "Bannerlord." Does anyone else remember that? It was a useless topic to discuss, but I kept coming back because I was so hyped about the game and was hoping for more information about it.
