Do you think it would be reasonable for lords who do not wish to fight you to have to negotiate the way the player does?
If I encounter a lord who begs me not to attack him while he's raiding my villages or laying siege to my castle and I let him go he'll go right back to what he's doing.
If you want to get a lord to not fight you you have to pay them off and agree to a parole which has one term: don't attack my faction for 10 days.
It doesn't make much sense logically the way it is but it would probably make small to medium sized wars a bit too easy...
