Any way to assign only certain troop types to a formation?

Hi new player here, question in the title. Let's say I only want my Swordsmen in Formation 1, is there a way to do this with any granularity? I know there's the small icons which allow you to set "preferred types", but is there any way to do it with a bit of precision? Or a mod which allows this? Thanks in advance. When to declare my own empire?

Clan tier 4 almost 5. 100 relations with all south imperial nobles and 80 something with amitatys’ clan. At which point would it be feasible to declare my empire, I have about 400 days before the quest expires.

If I should declare now what’s the best tip for surviving all the early war declarations and getting other nobles?
