Any way to assign only certain troop types to a formation?

Hi new player here, question in the title. Let's say I only want my Swordsmen in Formation 1, is there a way to do this with any granularity? I know there's the small icons which allow you to set "preferred types", but is there any way to do it with a bit of precision? Or a mod which allows this? Thanks in advance. Is there a point in getting more than 275 points in a skill?

I learned today that if you put 7 attribute points and 5 focus points in a skill, that the highest level you can get in that skill is 288, but the last perk is level 275, so why would you want to get higher than that? What is the point?
