Any way to assign only certain troop types to a formation?

Hi new player here, question in the title. Let's say I only want my Swordsmen in Formation 1, is there a way to do this with any granularity? I know there's the small icons which allow you to set "preferred types", but is there any way to do it with a bit of precision? Or a mod which allows this? Thanks in advance. Why is cunning the hardest skill to increase?

I get you have to work for it but damn all I do is hunt bandits and sell them back in the city. Im currently with Vlandia as a mercenary and for whatever reason they wont fight anyone right now even so I can only hold so many prisoners at a time is there any better ways to help this?
