For years I couldn't imagine playing mounted character without couchable lance. But then I spent quite a lot of time playing VC, where you cannot do this, so I used normal spear from horseback. It was awkward for a while, but when I got some skill, I realised how awesome and versatile it is. Then I went back to playing PoP and thought that everything would go back to 'normal'. Bought some knight lance and... hated it. So slow, useful only for charging which obviously requires flat battlefield, useless on foot. Switched to long, non-couchable spear and I'm decimating everyone. Footmen get one shot and I can kill many of them by swinging few times in matter of seconds while still being out of their melee range. I turn sideways against horsemen chasing me and put my spear in their skulls. Do you guys prefer couchable polearms, or is there anyone that would rather play like me?
Edit: Lets assume you can't have both and you must choose.
