Do "Hero" characters have better AI than regular soldiers?

I would have assumed not, but in my current playthrough (1.7.2) I've noticed my companions are generally getting way more kills than the average soldier.

For example, my 10 companions often get the same amount of total kills as 30-40 of my T6 Cav.

Usually I'd chalk this up to them having better weapons, or armour, or skills, but this go around I've been doing a gimmick where all my companions have the exact same equipment as my T6 cavalry troops, so that's not the issue, and they're even in the same formation so they're not getting different orders. In most cases the companion's relevant skills are also not as high.

No clue what could be causing this discrepancy besides better AI.

Back when Bannerlord was announced, I vaguely remember that, in the announcement thread, people were discussing the choice of the title "Bannerlord." Does anyone else remember that? It was a useless topic to discuss, but I kept coming back because I was so hyped about the game and was hoping for more information about it.
