How do you attack a defensive army?

So I'm not having trouble attacking people in bannerlord, I'm just curious if I'm missing something.

More often than not I'm stronger than the people I'm attacking, so they go up onto a hill or whatever and wait for me, that's fine and what not but I feel like how troop ordering is set up this makes the fight very unimmersive, maybe I'm missing something though.

I would like to participate in the fight but I'm stuck moving my troops into position, charging with cav, pulling back cav, charging with infantry, charging with cav, pulling back archers.

I don't even get to enjoy the fight because I'm sitting their clicking hotkeys, and I gotta sit back or else I wont be able to see the ground I need to move my troops onto.

The auto command doesn't seem great atm either, normally it puts my guys into defensive mode so were just sitting on either side of the map looking at each other.

Please understand I'm not trying to whine or complain, I just wanna know how you guys approach these kinds of battles, maybe I'm doing something wrong. I'm not a pro with all the hotkeys but I've looked through them a bit and haven't seen much to help me (mainly id like to be able to charge specific formations, the ai has that option but I don't see anyway to do it with commands)
