It occurred to me while testing some things playing the WOIAF mod that having multiple valyrian weapons might behoove me. The white walkers show up at the 600+ day mark and are invincible to all damage, excluding valyrian weapons, fire arrows and obsidian crap, so either have an army exclusively made of fire arrow shooters or an army of supped up companions wielding valyrian steel. The catch is that they are basically just overpowered bandits, as I was hoping they’d function like Perisno’s Great Weeb Invasion. After lazily dredging the internet, I’ve come up with a subpar list for how to acquire the valyrian weapons ingame. You might have to do some 5D Chess to get them.
(NOTE: this was done on version 3.0. There’re two versions of gameplay, a Book game and a TV game, and there are minor differences between the two, but unless specified I don’t know if there’s a difference, as this list was primarily made with the Book version in mind. All of these can be seen in the items notepad in the WOIAF module folder.)
KNOWN
Valyrian longsword A: One handed. The easiest one to get, simply acquire 500 renown and 90,000 silver shekels, then talk to the weaponsmith in Qohor. Sword A and Sword B have identical stats but a different graphic.
Valyrian longsword B: One handed. You must have purchased Sword A first, then pay another 90,000 silver rupies and you’ll have your Sword B.
Valyrian greatsword: Two handed. See previous swords, except you cannot have this one and Sword A + Sword B, it’s one or the other. The greatsword costs 160,000 silver Canadian dollars.
Ice: Two handed. Capture Winterfell. I’m assuming you can get Ice even if you’re a vassal of a faction, so long as you are the lord of Winterfell. In the Winterfell scene, ahead of the entrance to the lord’s keep is a yard with a weirdwood (big tree, red leaves, bloody face), there’s a chest at its base, crack it open and enjoy a cold Ice with the boys.
Heartsbane: two handed. Capture Lord Randyll Tarly and execute him; his gear, which includes Heartsbane, will go to you. All the lords ingame will hate you if you execute him. If you have your own faction, you can send him to the wall and only his own faction’s lords will hate you.
Blackfyre: one handed. See prior, except held by Aegon Targaryen of the House Targaryen faction if you play a Book game, and held by Daenarys Targaryen for a TV game. House Targaryen will only spawn if you do Varys’ questline. If you feel bad about killing Aegon/Daenarys, just make excuses for yourself like I do; in one game I was Rhaegon Targaryen, former mummer and rightful 40th King of the Seven Kingdoms, and the one who tore down the Wall.
UNKNOWN
Valyrian arakh: one handed. Held by Caggo of The Windblown, a mercenary group wandering Essos similar to PoP’s wandering armies. If you knock out Caggo in battle, you can pick up the arakh but it goes away afterward. This one might be an indicative deal breaker, as it’s possible to hire Caggo and the Windblown into your own warband, but you cannot change his inventory. Likewise if you beat the Windblown in battle, capture Caggo and convince him to join you, you still cannot change his inventory. I would imagine all the mini-companions would function this way, as in earlier versions you could apparently acquire their phat loot by doing this. Maybe this feature was removed?
Longclaw: one/two handed. Held by Jon Snow of lord commander Jeor Mormont’s party. See Valyrian Arakh. Jon Snow is even more annoying, as any method I tried only gave me his generic response of ‘if you want to join the blablabla.’ One post mentioned that you could acquire him by playing some 5D Chess; join a faction that is at war with both the nights watch and, say, the free folk. Have jeor Mormont, and by extension jon snow, be captured by the free folk. After he is taken to a castle, capture said castle and bingo bango bongo Jon Snow is yours I guess. I haven’t gotten this to work yet.
Valyrian longsword A: one/two handed. These three have identical stats. No idea where to get them yet, but in the books, Ser Lyn Corbray has possession of a valyrian sword, and ingame, Ser Lyn Corbray is a mini-companion in Lord Lyonel Corbray’s warband. I haven’t been able to determine if he has one or not.
Valyrian longsword B: one/two handed. See previous.
Valyrian longsword C: one/two handed. See previous.
Valyrian blade: one handed sword. No clue where to get this one. Of note is that it does not have the flavor text like most other valyrian weapons, but I don’t know if that means it can’t hurt white walkers.
Valyrian axe: two handed. No clue. A valyrian axe is apparently possessed by House Celtigar in the books, but they are nowhere to be seen ingame.
Valyrian scimitar: one handed. Bruh I don’t know who tf is rockin a valyrian scimitar, where my valyrian katanas at boi.
Dark sister: one/two handed. No idea, but the WOIAF mod seems based on the Brytenwalda mod, which had a quest with a nifty sword as a reward. In the WOIAF quest notepad in the module folder, that same quest is still there, so it’s possible the mod developer was being sneaky and just kept the text the same. I dunno lol.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
King’s hammer: King Bobby B’s hammer, apparently. There’s a hidden quest to kill a specific boar wandering around the map near King’s Landing, and this hammer MAY be a reward for said quest, but I haven’t had any luck finding the boar. The flavor text mentions that it’s a valyrian hammer. I don’t remember King Boarbert Baratheon’s hammer being valyrian. You heard the hand, the hammer’s too valyrian for the king. GO FIND THE VALYRIAN STRETCHER!
Obsidian spear: not sure. I think it’s sold by the nights watch or free folk.
Obsidian javelins: not sure. See previous.
Fire sword: one/two handed sword. Hire thoros of myr companion into your warband and it’s his weapon. It’s simply named ‘bastard sword,’ but in a fight or scene it’s on fire.
Dawn: one/two handed sword. Held by Lord Edric Dayne. He’s twelve in the books, so good job being a child murderer.
Lightbringer: one handed sword. Held by King Stannis Baratheon. Kill him and it’s yours.
Redwyne: one handed sword. Held by Lord Paxter Redwyne. Not really worth it to kill him, honestly.
Plate armor (Targaryen): the reward for varys’ quest. Varys is always in King’s Landing’s Lord’s Hall. He gives a questline with this armor as one of the rewards. Note that it has a different graphic for a TV and Book game, with the Book one being based on artistic depictions of Rhaegar’s armor, and the TV one based on the ye olde kingsguard armor that’s seen in flashbacks.
