I know there is (was?) a mod there you could have like a personal guard of 10 units in every battle. But is there any working mod out there that fix so you can have that, but also decide on your own what units shall be in it? I was watching some expert level Age of Empires 2 gameplay, and it occured to me that the level of individual control that players have over units makes for very interesting and high skill ceiling tactical play.
For example:
You have a small army of archers, you use your superior movement speed and range to kite around infantry, focusing them down one at a time, making a cost effective engagement.
when I play warband with archers, I tend to just camp on a hill and wait for infantry to arrive.
I think it'd be really cool, and a deep gameplay mechanic to be able to instruct your soldiers to attempt to focus down a particular enemy unit, such as a lord, or butter knights, or what have you. In that way, smart, high-skill engagements would allow skilled players to enjoy greater success with less that stellar units.
What are your thoughts?
