I was watching some expert level Age of Empires 2 gameplay, and it occured to me that the level of individual control that players have over units makes for very interesting and high skill ceiling tactical play.
For example:
You have a small army of archers, you use your superior movement speed and range to kite around infantry, focusing them down one at a time, making a cost effective engagement.
when I play warband with archers, I tend to just camp on a hill and wait for infantry to arrive.
I think it'd be really cool, and a deep gameplay mechanic to be able to instruct your soldiers to attempt to focus down a particular enemy unit, such as a lord, or butter knights, or what have you. In that way, smart, high-skill engagements would allow skilled players to enjoy greater success with less that stellar units.
What are your thoughts?
