Mods with only one Kingdom

I know the whole point of MnB is the chaos and politics of different kingdoms, BUT i was wondering if there are any mods with only one major kingdom or just 2 for a rebellion type playthrough. How Do I get a Companion?

I just started playing and I have a good 8 hours so far, so I wanted to try to add a companion to my party. The problem is that whenever I ask one to join me, my character says "Unfortunately, I can't take any more hands in my party right now." Why is this happening? I don't have any other companions
