Mods with only one Kingdom

I know the whole point of MnB is the chaos and politics of different kingdoms, BUT i was wondering if there are any mods with only one major kingdom or just 2 for a rebellion type playthrough. I recently picked this game up and I have a question about archers.

I have used the top tier swadian archers and top tier nord archers and as far as I can tell they're basically useless. In a 100 v 100 scenario they get like 25 kills to my foot men's 75 then they drop like flies as soon as the enemy gets close to them. Am I supposed to be making a concerted effort to protect them from flanks? How can I use them more effectively?
