How to improve auto resolve outcomes?

I auto-resolve 90% of the fights I get into, what can I do for better results? Should I find 1-2 companions with high tactics skill and keep them in my party? Will that help? Do I have to assign them into any role? There is no slot for tactics role, is it enough if I just keep them in my party? As for sieges, should I keep a companion with high engineering skill and assign him in the engineering slot? What version should I play on?

Just got Bannerlord because Warband was a lot of fun. However, I've been finding it hard to mod the game. I keep on crashing. I have a few questions.

  1. What version is the best for modding? There seems to be many versions, and not all mods are compatible with the current one (1.6.5)
  2. What mods should I have for a playthrough? I don't want to play the game vanilla since it's going to get stale, unlike if I play it with mods.
  3. Does the version matter? What do they even add?
  4. Is there a limit to how many mods you should have? Out of my 4 hours of playtime, 3 hours were probably spent testing mods.
