I'm playing with some mods that heavily restrict recruitment, so my army is almost entirely bandits and mercenaries. On land, Monchug's army would destroy mine, but this isn't a land battle and he gifted me several amazing prizes. Because of their versatility, I think that Khergit Lancers are the best unit in the game.
Field Battles: When it comes to field battles, cavalry is king. In Native, there are only 4 high-tier cavalry units: Vaegir Knights, Khergit Lancers, Swadian Knights, and Sarranid Mamelukes. Even though Khergit Lancers are inferior to the Swadian Knight and Sarranid Mamelukes in field combat, an entire army of Khergit Lancers will easily be able to outnumber and outmaneuver any enemy cavalry. (Khergit Lancers are arguably better in combat against Vaegir Knights).
Question: "So why not just use an entire army of Swadian Knights?" Answer: Khergit Lancers have other advantages other than field battle effectiveness. These include:
Cost Effectiveness: It costs only 80 denars to fully upgrade a Khergit Lancer, as opposed to 200 denars for a Swadian Knight.
Easy to Train: Khergit Lancers are only a tier-four unit, making them much quicker to train as opposed to other cavalry.
Sieges: Khergit Lancers can be pretty effective in sieges since most of them carry shorter weapons with higher speed ratings as opposed to other cavalry.
