Maybe you guys already know about this and I'm just extremely late to the party, but there's a way for you not to lose about 40 men every day while you siege a castle during the Viking Conquest version of the siege. Please tell me whether this counts as an exploit so I can feel cheap, or if this a legitimate tip so I can feel like I'm helping the community! I've only tested this in Viking Conquest, so unless AWOIAF has a "Quarters" option on the lower left hand side, this might not work.
So as you guys know, many people prefer the newer method of siege from the Viking Conquest mod for many reasons, due to the complex ways of taking a castle, including the option to actually starve a castle out without losing as much as half your food supply and troops (unless its in the winter). This post is for people that want to have the best of both worlds when it comes to starving the defenders out, or just immediate attacking upon beginning the siege.
As long as this post is, the tip/exploit is very simple; Upon the first day of besieging, begin building blockades, but before you just start waiting, put ALL of your troops into camp quarter, leaving only you and your companions inside your party. On the map, it will show you next to the castle, but now with a camp icon of your troops right under you.
This has so many benefits. One, the enemy is so much more likely to fight now that they believe it's only you sieging them, but every time the come out you will be reinforced by your troops. Two, you can have the vanguard build all of your siege equipment with the only casualties being your companions. Three, and perhaps most significant, your troops won't be dying all the time during the winter siege due to colds and sickness.
This is my first post so let me know what you guys think, maybe I can tone this down to like one paragraph or something heh.
TL;DR: Put all of your troops in the "Quarters" option of the UI bar or whatever it's called to reduce causalities and siege inconveniences.
