My companions defect when I try to rescue them

So I lost a battle to the Vaegirs pretty bad (hadn't gotten my Sarranid army up to proper "full cavalry army" status yet) and all of my male companions--Bunduk, Jeremus, Firentis, Bashestur, and Alayen--got captured and thrown in Radoghir Castle. I figured I'd run in, punch the guard, and break them out.

Everything went swimmingly until I got them out of the building. When I leave and put on my armor and weapons, all of them also leave the building (even if I tell them to stay back until I'm ready to leave with them) and are seemingly not on my side and not on the enemy side at the same time. If I get close to them they attack me but the guards pincushion them. I've staged 3 jailbreaks and they've all gotten killed every time.

What's going on? How do I fix this? I reeeeeally don't want to have to recapture the castle or ransom them all off. If it's any help, I'm playing as a female character, in case that sets off some kind of weird bug.

Prophecy of Pendor - Early Game Guide

So I wanted to write an early game guide to share my experience and hopefully help someone else get into the mod without as much agony as I (and many others) experienced. Character Creation - Questions When you start character creation, the game hits you with a bunch of background story questions. My advice is to answer these however you like, building the backstory for your character that interests you and helps get you into the story. However , these questions have serious impacts on the game, most critically whether you can create Knights of the Griffon chapters with just money, and something called the Rumor Interval which sounds irrelevant but is the most important thing ever . TaleWorlds Forums

Back when Bannerlord was announced, I vaguely remember that, in the announcement thread, people were discussing the choice of the title "Bannerlord." Does anyone else remember that? It was a useless topic to discuss, but I kept coming back because I was so hyped about the game and was hoping for more information about it.
