i can't sue for peace while actively dying

im in 2 front war, all my vassals are captured, i have one castle left after vlandia cane with the 2000 men army and took my city , and i cant make peace even i i want to pay tribute. Is horse/archery the only way to play?

I'm just starting out after having watched a good number of play-throughs and some tutorials. It kind of seems to me that archery and horse archery is the most OP way to play, am I correct in this? I'm kind of interested in playing a heavy lancer kind of character, but it seems like I'd get wrecked by lots of ranged units or in sieges.
