What is fast mode?

Why are the non-crafted lances so short?

Looking at the heavy sturgian, heavy vlandian, and noble khuzait lances, it seems that the lengths top put around 200, which seems really short to me. I can use crafted lances with length 235+ pretty easily and I’ve had companions do really well with them too. It just seems odd to me, and I think it’s one of the reasons that shock cav is relatively underpowered in this game compared to other troops types
