Monchug was feeling generous today.

I'm playing with some mods that heavily restrict recruitment, so my army is almost entirely bandits and mercenaries. On land, Monchug's army would destroy mine, but this isn't a land battle and he gifted me several amazing prizes. Questions about PoP

How the hell can you survive early late game when you're making your kingdom? I keep getting bum rushed by an opposing faction and all of its vassals. Also why are most of the castles in PoP either lacking in actual defenses or good pathfinding for the defenders. The only town I have witnessed in this game with actual good defences is Laria.
