How to improve auto resolve outcomes?

I auto-resolve 90% of the fights I get into, what can I do for better results? Should I find 1-2 companions with high tactics skill and keep them in my party? Will that help? Do I have to assign them into any role? There is no slot for tactics role, is it enough if I just keep them in my party? As for sieges, should I keep a companion with high engineering skill and assign him in the engineering slot? So I’ve seen that there is a big dislike on the khergits. Wondering if anyone would be interested in seeing me take over Calradia with that faction? If not well fuck off im doing it anyways!
