How to improve auto resolve outcomes?

I auto-resolve 90% of the fights I get into, what can I do for better results? Should I find 1-2 companions with high tactics skill and keep them in my party? Will that help? Do I have to assign them into any role? There is no slot for tactics role, is it enough if I just keep them in my party? As for sieges, should I keep a companion with high engineering skill and assign him in the engineering slot? Mods recommendations?

I have about 250hours on the game, all in native, floris and a bit in clash of kings.

Floris evolved crashed on me too many times to be playable and the new factions in new dawn seem to be too much for the map.

Any recommendations?
