STUCK AT BEGINING OF WARSAILS

I escorted the merchants and fought off two ships in a sea battle . I'm on the Scourge of the Seas quest. It tells me to talk to Gunnar via a golden exclamation point. I go to talk to him and he says thst he is waiting on new." What do I do now? It seems as though there are no obvious prompts and the quest still exists. I need help specifically with advancing this quest...I can't believe I am stuck this early in the game. If anyone has any advice, I'm really desperate. Whats wrong with ai tactics.

Ive noticed the main go to thing for AI is; some attempt to skirmish with archers, charge with cav and then when the enemy infantry is close ebough theyll charge with infantry. Horse archers seem to charge anytime the enemy turns their back and just die and god forbid you don't use default groups because it just screws up ai commanders.

To me the cav should be regarded as highest priority to keep alive, and should be more of a reserve guard and opportunistic flanker than the initial chargers.
