STUCK AT BEGINING OF WARSAILS

I escorted the merchants and fought off two ships in a sea battle . I'm on the Scourge of the Seas quest. It tells me to talk to Gunnar via a golden exclamation point. I go to talk to him and he says thst he is waiting on new." What do I do now? It seems as though there are no obvious prompts and the quest still exists. I need help specifically with advancing this quest...I can't believe I am stuck this early in the game. If anyone has any advice, I'm really desperate. Best tactic for taking over a legacy kingdom

I’m on my fourth play thru and usually try and grab 2-3 towns before I leave whatever kingdom I’m in. I did a test withdraw and saw that upon leaving you lose all your influence. As i currently have over 700 with the Brits I’m either trying to come up with ways to spend it that make sense, or figure out how to get rid of Caldog. My influence far exceeds his. How should i spend my influence/get ride of the ruler so I can try and appoint myself as the ruler
