STUCK AT BEGINING OF WARSAILS

I escorted the merchants and fought off two ships in a sea battle . I'm on the Scourge of the Seas quest. It tells me to talk to Gunnar via a golden exclamation point. I go to talk to him and he says thst he is waiting on new." What do I do now? It seems as though there are no obvious prompts and the quest still exists. I need help specifically with advancing this quest...I can't believe I am stuck this early in the game. If anyone has any advice, I'm really desperate. Pike Bracing?

I'm not sure if there has been anything from the dev end, but does anyone know if the devs plan on adding pike Bracing to Single player? Pikeman feel fairly useless since they usually will take their swords out and be a infantryman with no shield. And with no way to tell them to use their pike I feel there's no reason to really have them at this point. Unlike the Menvalion who prove useful against both cavalry and infantry.
