I'm playing with some mods that heavily restrict recruitment, so my army is almost entirely bandits and mercenaries. On land, Monchug's army would destroy mine, but this isn't a land battle and he gifted me several amazing prizes. The game is called Space Pirates and Zombies 2. I didn't buy it expecting a Warband clone, but once I started playing the inspiration was pretty clear. The game uses an overworld (over-galaxy?) map with instanced battles. Space stations take the place of towns and castles, which are supported by smaller stations that produce a specific resource. There are no hero characters, near as I can tell, but the role of other lords is taken by other spaceship captains.
Not that it's exactly the same. For example rather than building a "warband" of spaceships you have one, which you can heavily customize. Sure, it has fighter hangers, but unless there's a capability I didn't get to in five hours of playing you can't ever have more than four of those.
Utlimately, it's no replacement for Warband, but if you're looking for something that's a little different but might still scratch that itch it's both not bad and currently on sale on Steam.
