Any way to assign only certain troop types to a formation?

Hi new player here, question in the title. Let's say I only want my Swordsmen in Formation 1, is there a way to do this with any granularity? I know there's the small icons which allow you to set "preferred types", but is there any way to do it with a bit of precision? Or a mod which allows this? Thanks in advance. What's going on with smelting daggers? Seems like you have to smelt a crapload of them to get all the blades

My blacksmith has Curious Smelter. I bought 35 pugios and smelted them and unlocked one grip and one hilt. I still have like 11 blades to unlock in daggers, not to mention all of the other parts. By my math I'm going to have to smelt at least 2000 pugios to unlock all the dagger parts. Does that sound right?
