Any way to assign only certain troop types to a formation?

Hi new player here, question in the title. Let's say I only want my Swordsmen in Formation 1, is there a way to do this with any granularity? I know there's the small icons which allow you to set "preferred types", but is there any way to do it with a bit of precision? Or a mod which allows this? Thanks in advance. How do you play this game?

So I just bought and started playing it, and after the tutorial, I couldn't seem to muster enough money, troops, or food to do anything, and everytime I find a quest, I can't even do it because I don't meet requirements. So I was just wondering how to start growing my party again.
