Editing troop loadouts. Is it easy?

I posted this in the official forums, but haven't gotten a response in over 24 hours, so I'm trying my luck here.

I'm doing a series of posts on which units in the game are the strongest.
Bannerlord thunderdome. Which units are the best

I'm currently working on the 2 handed Infantry matchups. As is common knowledge, the best 2 handed infantry in the game are dismounted holdfire Khuzait Khan guards and holdfire Battanian Fian Champions.
I would like to compare these two directly in a Custom Battle matchup, but cannot order the enemy to dismount or hold fire.

I've found the XML file spnpccharacters.xml which has the relevant loadout code. Is it just a matter of commenting out the relevant items and running the game, or do I need to do other things to get this to work?
