Declared war on allied mercenaries on load save?

I’m playing as southern Empire, have the Hidden Hand as mercenaries with a couple of their parties in my army. I started a big battle late at night, so half way through quit to go to bed, knowing I’d saved right before the battle anyway like a good little save scummer. Now when I reload any of the precious 3 autosaves I immediately declare war on the Hidden Hand and their parties abandon my Army. Am I missing something with medicine?

I see posts talking about minimizing casualties always talking about leveling medicine and how op it is and I’m kinda confused. I get that the 275 perk is really strong, but it doesn’t affect the casualty ratio right? and the maxed medicine skill overall gives like a 1% higher chance of surviving. is there something I’m missing?
