Monchug was feeling generous today.

I'm playing with some mods that heavily restrict recruitment, so my army is almost entirely bandits and mercenaries. On land, Monchug's army would destroy mine, but this isn't a land battle and he gifted me several amazing prizes. I'm thinking about getting the game on sale...

And I really know NOTHING about the game other then watching a few videos and playing a version of it in Age of Empires II (shoutout to r/aoe if you like medieval games and RTS) so, anything I need to know history/controls/balancing/ etc... wise about this game?
