Disappointed Diplomacy

Just got back into the game agter the war sails expansion. And I am disappointed at the shallow level of fiplomacy still in the game. So many aded features and yet they could not add a truce mechanic...or even a way to influence nobles to change policy. Furthermore the changes they made are banal and redundant.. Explain to me why my "ALLY" Just deckared war on me after i PAID them 500k money to attack another faction. Keep in mind this was with 72 days remaining on the alliance. Just got Rivacheg

So I am a lord of the Rhodoks and I was able to get Senugzda Castle after taking it without any help and holding it against the onslaught of Swadians. A lot of time passes, I get some villages, but what I really want is Dhirim. However that is passed to my father in law. Cue a couple of days later and the king grants me Rivacheg out of the blue. How do I hold on to this when it is so deep within Vaegir territory? It is a prosperous town so I make a bunch of money from it.

Back when Bannerlord was announced, I vaguely remember that, in the announcement thread, people were discussing the choice of the title "Bannerlord." Does anyone else remember that?
