Disappointed Diplomacy

Just got back into the game agter the war sails expansion. And I am disappointed at the shallow level of fiplomacy still in the game. So many aded features and yet they could not add a truce mechanic...or even a way to influence nobles to change policy. Furthermore the changes they made are banal and redundant.. Explain to me why my "ALLY" Just deckared war on me after i PAID them 500k money to attack another faction. Keep in mind this was with 72 days remaining on the alliance. Trading mods

So I'm doing a caravan playthrough mostly trading and such. Not focusing on combat at all just tryna get rich. Are there any good mods for improving the experience? It's not bad at all, but still it feels like it could be more.
