Taking lords prisoner?

Have not played since war sails first released. What’s up with taking lords prisoner now? Before when you’d defeat a party it aways gave you the option, now it seems like half the time they just slip away somehow. Can i make two lords hate eachother?

So I'm a vassal of the Kingdom of Swadia and I'm ready to start my own kingdom. I'm very good friends with King Harlaus and Count Grainwad.

Anyways, Grainwad owns a lot of swadia and when I ask how he feels about Harlaus, he always says 'long may he live'. Is there anyway I can make him hate Harlaus so I can convince him to join me and contribute his land to my kingdom?
