How to improve auto resolve outcomes?

I auto-resolve 90% of the fights I get into, what can I do for better results? Should I find 1-2 companions with high tactics skill and keep them in my party? Will that help? Do I have to assign them into any role? There is no slot for tactics role, is it enough if I just keep them in my party? As for sieges, should I keep a companion with high engineering skill and assign him in the engineering slot? How do I get girls to like me?

Solveig is my girl, but I am pursing Ragnhild in order to marry into the family of Ragnar Lodbrok. I'm best bros with her brother, Sigurd and he's all for it. The problem is, she doesn't like me, probably due to my extensive raiding, pillaging, murdering and enslaving. I've tried reciting poetry, but she isn't too interested. I've dueled her suitors and it just made her like me less. She never has any tasks that need doing, and she never attends tournaments! What is this humble viking to do?
