I spend the last few nights watching mount and blade streams. Big differences in enjoyment between streams.
There seem to be some streamers that are able to pull about 1k viewers. But i didn't like them that much. I like the unknown ones with <20 viewers the most. Thats where you can actually talk to them and be involved in their kingdom.
Ok here is what people did wrong about streaming quality:
At least 720p. If you cant stream at 720p you could reduce the fps. For the viewers to read all messages in the game we need at least 720p!
Sound was ok in most streams. Of course having a professional microphone is better but it's not that much of a factor for me.
One feature is actually way more important than you would guess. Seeing the twitch chat in the game stream itself. This way the viewer can see the dealy of the stream and the communication with the streamer is a million times better. Other work around might be to read every message as soon as it pops up.
Fun part of streaming:
Watching someone min maxing a playthrough of native is not that interesting as you might think. Please invent funny background stories for your character.
Get attached to towns and have some emotiona towards the lords. We want entertainment and not a min max robot winning the game.
Never stop talking.
Do tournaments! Or arena fights! They are interesting to watch and you can level that way! Make it the training montage of your char!
Biggest thing streamers dont take into account: get the viewers involved by dedicating units to the viewers. Either by letting the viewers choose the gear/skills of a hero or by creating a special group as in infantry/cavalry and put units into them. This should be the main focus of your stream. Involve viewers.
From time to time you should give an overview of your kingdom and your short term goals. Dont tell us that you will siege a castle, tell us why this castle is important in the bigger picture.
For anyone who wants to tune in, here is a link with all mount and blade streamers currently live:
Please make sure to also check out the streamers with 0 viewers. They were all very happy to see a viewer!
Cringe parts:
From time to time streamers do incredible cringe stuff.
Once i wanted to make a joke about his character wearing a hat that looked like some underpants. The streamer misinterpreted my joke and proceeded to look for a pantie to wear on his head while streaming, followed by explanations from where he got it and why it's not creepy to wear it on his head for five minutes.
But the best cringe was a guy who started rapping about his kingdom. Wasn't actually bad until his mom came into the room. She proceeded to tell him to go to sleep and went in for the hug/kiss for the night. Streamer tried to push her away but it was too late. Streamer was a grown man. I have a link but it was so embarrassing that i wont share it!
