Do parties discard wounded or other soldiers after every battle?

I’m noticing that my soldier count for my parties keeps drastically reducing at random. Specifically, I’ve noticed a pattern around battles I win, where I take very low losses but still lose soldiers. These will be battles where I win drastically, eg I’ll have 400 soldiers in my army and take ~10 dead ~40 wounded, and after some time I’ll notice my army is down to 350 troops, with no wounded in the parties in my army. Randomly, I’ll also notice drops in party soldier count.

My use case is I have my 3 parties holding (generally high tier) troops and I’ll notice their troop counts suspiciously dip at random. This is problematic because it degrades the ability to rotate in/out troops to parties depending on severity level of a conflict. Essentially, I’m losing faith in the party management system, and I’m wondering what expected behavior of how parties manage troops is.
