Hey folks! Question about War Sails.

I’m still a new player at Mount & Blade. My friend has the PS+ catalogue so I gave Warband a shot and liked it, I’ll be sure to play it on PC! I’m interested in buying War Sails. I need help!

I became the leader of a kingdom without having handed over the banner to the former king. Is there any way to proceed or do I have to go out and create my own kingdom / relinquish leadership and hand over the banner?
