I'm playing with some mods that heavily restrict recruitment, so my army is almost entirely bandits and mercenaries. On land, Monchug's army would destroy mine, but this isn't a land battle and he gifted me several amazing prizes. If you dislike using the cursor and tired of D-pad spamming buy a cheap Bluetooth dongle mouse and use that to navigate the menus, the game switches inputs instantly. You can also use it and a controller at the same time to fight if you wanted to. (I've not done this so can't confirm if it even works that well)
I've been using a small laptop mouse for menu navigation for the last 4 days and it's made a world of difference in my life.
