im in 2 front war, all my vassals are captured, i have one castle left after vlandia cane with the 2000 men army and took my city , and i cant make peace even i i want to pay tribute. What's the point of caravans or workshops

In my campaign they bother cost upwards of 20k but only produce like 63-127 for workshops and 156-239 for caravans which is nice I guess but for how much it costs workshops will take forever to turn a profit and a caravan will be demolished by war before it turns a profit so am I using it wrong or is it just not worth it.
