Seige Defence in the Bailey

If you have quality tier troops, and seeing how enemy AI works; has anyone tried to mount a concentrated defence in the bailey of the castle from the start rather than spread out on the walls?

The enemy would more or less charge in single file and even if the archers got on the walls, there would be less spots for cover.
