How the hell do I use Horse Archers?

In the previous versions of the game I remember that setting horse archers to "charge" would make them circle the enemy while showering them with arrows, and "engage" will make them retreat from enemy's melee range while shooting as they retreat. In this version it doesn't seem to be working that way? I've sent them to charge and about half of them went melee and the other half was randomly walking around, shooting at the shieldwall's shields. What commands should I be using for Horse Archers? How to train/equip troops?

I have some experience playing the first game, but I am having major problems getting started in the second.

Outside of the tutorial fight, anytime I get in a battle in similar numbers with even the lowest quality opposition (Looters, Bandits) all of my troops get crushed and don't even kill a single fighter on the enemy side. Only I get any kills.

Is there a way to train/equip them first? I can't even get started in the game because of this. I don't remember the first game being anywhere near that hard.

I am playing on realistic difficulty.

Dickplomacy Reloaded!

Hello everyone! :D I just made a mod, it's called Dickplomacy Reloaded. Basically it adds the functionality that you would find in normal mods, such as Dynamic Troop Trees, Custom Troop Trees, Freelancer, Tournament Play Enhancements, Single Screen Character Creation, and Rubiks World Map into Dickplomacy. ^-^ It also doesn't require WSE, but you still need the older (exe) version of Warband that comes with Dickplomacy. (Though I haven't tested it with the newest version of Warband so it might work.) Also, if you do decide to download it, please ignore (DO NOT USE) the "content options" folder, it is legacy, and the mod is compiled from source with all features.
