Any way to assign only certain troop types to a formation?

Hi new player here, question in the title. Let's say I only want my Swordsmen in Formation 1, is there a way to do this with any granularity? I know there's the small icons which allow you to set "preferred types", but is there any way to do it with a bit of precision? Or a mod which allows this? Thanks in advance. Am I not doing something right?

Spend 3 whole in-game years to finally be able to win a castle instantly lose it cause ya know all cultures are just gonna send 1000 person armies at my 300 one to instantly lose and have to start over again. What am I missing here?
