Any way to assign only certain troop types to a formation?

Hi new player here, question in the title. Let's say I only want my Swordsmen in Formation 1, is there a way to do this with any granularity? I know there's the small icons which allow you to set "preferred types", but is there any way to do it with a bit of precision? Or a mod which allows this? Thanks in advance. How do I make a good character?

Not gonna lie, I suck at making characters for literally anything, and I have zero good ideas on a character and his/her background, since I've played as pretty much everything. I can't think of any new ideas so if anyone has a suggestion on how I can make something original please let me know, thanks!

P.s. When I say I have done everything, I don't mean everything. I've just done a lot of different ideas that I had and now don't have.
