Any way to assign only certain troop types to a formation?

Hi new player here, question in the title. Let's say I only want my Swordsmen in Formation 1, is there a way to do this with any granularity? I know there's the small icons which allow you to set "preferred types", but is there any way to do it with a bit of precision? Or a mod which allows this? Thanks in advance. What to do late game?

As soon as you becomes a ruler and conquered one other kingdom the game immediately turn into SimCity + Excel. I have tried to finish the game 3 times and always give up halfway cause of how boring the kingdom management is.

Is there anything to do to spice thing up at this stage of the game?
