Need advice.

I'm a vassal of Valandia. I have good relations with almost everyone and 99 relation with Derthert. But I am not getting feifs. I only have a shitty town and castle I am in crippling debt. Should I wait for Derthert to die so I can try to become king? Or do I pull a Benedict Arnold?
