So what's the point of alleys now that sneaking missions exist?

I just came back to the game after a year hiatus, and I'm thrilled they finally actually added mechanics rather than just doing endless bug and balance patches that somehow break every mod with every patch. I discovered the sneaking tutorial, and then found out that basically every stealth kill or every other stealth kill gives a level of roguery. (5 focus points) now I'm wondering what's the point of alleys anymore. They were never particularly good, but at least there was an argument to be made that they increased roguery. But now that I can just go farm hideout stealth missions, earn way more money, keep my companions in my party, and not gain crime in the process, I'm wondering what purpose alleys serve anymore? (Alley income should be ×10 imo) submitted by /u/forfor [link] [comments]

Starting Kingdom Guide

Okay so I’ve spent the last few months getting my head around starting a kingdom and have now finally got over the frustration and worked it out. Since I was desperately looking for a post like this I’d thought I would share my tips.

  1. Join a faction as a vassal and get granted a town or castle. It shouldn’t take long especially if said faction is at war.

  2. Once you have a fief or two leave the kingdom and become a fief owning clan. The faction you were with will declare war with you, since you are a clan no other factions will try to start a war.

  3. Use this time to expand your army and build relations with lords in the area, do missions for them and assist in battles if they are fighting against the original faction you started with and are now at war with. The best option is to have 1 fief that will become the main epicentre of your kingdom. This fief should be loaded up with a full garrison.

  4. Once you have about 500k (minimum) coin saved you are ready to start a kingdom. Once you start your kingdom everyone will want to start war with you. This is inevitable and cannot be stopped. It is because you are weak.

  5. Allow armies to come to your fief to siege, stand by with your army (heavily loaded with archers as you are currently in ‘defence’ mode. When the armies try to attack your fief simply break in to help defenders. A 300 strong tier 5 archer army will take down a 1500 strong army in siege defence. Rinse and repeat, as you do this you’ll be making more money with loot, raising your troops up and gaining influence.

  6. Since you spent time on building relations with lords as you capture them after failed siege attacks you have the option to talk with them and try to encourage them into your faction. This is a good way but costs a fortune in coin, it’s a good way to boost your kingdom.

  7. The best way to expand clans and grow your kingdom is to take over fiefs (once you’ve captured lots of lords of attacking armies in your siege defence) once you take over a fief you can talk to one of your companions in your party and gift them the fief and make them a vassal of your kingdom. This will cost 500 influence. When starting a kingdom influence will be more readily available than coin. Since you are constantly winning siege defences your influence will sky rocket. Do this as often as possible and get 5-10 clans under you. All clans wil have 100 relation as you started them out.

  8. As you grow your kingdom starting more vassals you will become a democracy where decisions need to be agreed and voted on. My recommendation is to enact policies that help lower the influence needed for you to turn votes. As you capture lords and win battles (mainly siege defence in the beginning then siege attacks) your kingdom will want to make peace. Rather then spend 800-1000 influence trying to keep the war going just go with the flow and work with your other vassals.

  9. I would have a war with vlandia while at peace with aserai, claim a few settlements then my vassals would want peace with vlandia so then switch and work on aserai territory. It takes a long time to grow. Slow and steady is key, as you take fiefs spend the time on donating troops! Build slowly but surely. Work with your kingdom not against them.

  10. Once you have created about 20 clans under your kingdom you can raise armies 2000 plus strong and for low influence cost - Now it’s time for world domination.

  11. As your kingdom wants to declare war and then make peace you will need to ensure you are taking lots of loot and selling it during peace time to have the funds to pay your tribute. As your kingdom gets bigger the need to pay tribute gets lower.

  12. Lastly war is good. Embrace it. It’s the main source of income (loot) - obviously always ensure you are running caravans and workshops to keep your economy strong
