Declared war on allied mercenaries on load save?

I’m playing as southern Empire, have the Hidden Hand as mercenaries with a couple of their parties in my army. I started a big battle late at night, so half way through quit to go to bed, knowing I’d saved right before the battle anyway like a good little save scummer. Now when I reload any of the precious 3 autosaves I immediately declare war on the Hidden Hand and their parties abandon my Army. Fire ships in campaign but not in main game?!

In the missions for the nords, we can steer a fire ship into an enemy ship, but we cannot make our own fire ships in the actual sandbox? What a missed opportunity. So many insignificant pirate ships and trade ships that would have only been sold for the price of a few measly sacks of grain could be much more entertaining if we could blow them up if we were to have a surprise encounter with another enemy that outmatched us in manpower. A fireship would make things very interesting for the balance of power.
