I just came back to the game after a year hiatus, and I'm thrilled they finally actually added mechanics rather than just doing endless bug and balance patches that somehow break every mod with every patch. I discovered the sneaking tutorial, and then found out that basically every stealth kill or every other stealth kill gives a level of roguery. (5 focus points) now I'm wondering what's the point of alleys anymore. They were never particularly good, but at least there was an argument to be made that they increased roguery. But now that I can just go farm hideout stealth missions, earn way more money, keep my companions in my party, and not gain crime in the process, I'm wondering what purpose alleys serve anymore? I had difficulty getting Visual Studio 2015 installed so I thought I'd make a guide for any others looking to learn C# to mod Bannerlord when it comes out. Keep in mind you must use the 2015 version to mod.
To start off with you must not have any version of Visual Studio later than 2015 installed. I had 2017 installed before so I just uninstalled it from the control panel and reinstalled it afterwards.
I was unable to find a link from the download section to the community edition but here is a link to the iso download on microsoft's website. When this is installed, go to your downloads folder, right click the file 'vs2015.3.com_enu.iso' and click 'Mount' (it may have a little disc icon next to it). If it doesn't launch the installer then navigate to 'This PC' on your file explorer and you should see the installer with your drives. Open it and run the installer exe. It may take a while in the beginning to start the install but just give it time. This should contain Update 3 for Visual Studio 2015 as well; when I tried to install Update 3 it said that it was already installed.
After you've installed it, go to the install location. The default is in the C drive under 'Program Files (x86)'.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\Common7\IDE
This is the folder you want to go to. Inside you will find an executable called 'devenv.exe'. This is what you use launch the program. I just created a shortcut to it, placed it on my desktop, and renamed it.
Your Visual Studio 2015 Community Edition with Update 3 should now be working. If you have any questions just ask and I will try to answer as best I can. If you want to learn C# then you may want to take a look at this video. It's 6 hours but I found it to be very good.
